Anthony Ray Hinton is an American activist and author known for his wrongful conviction for two murders in Alabama and his eventual exoneration after 30 years on death row, a story detailed in his New York Times bestselling memoir, The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row. Hinton was convicted in 1985 based on flawed ballistics evidence and inadequate legal representation, despite having an alibi and being exonerated by a polygraph test. His case was eventually overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2014, leading to his release in 2015 with the assistance of the Equal Justice Initiative.
